I was able to A/B these today at my local guitar store, and I liked the P90 version. I like P90s, though, I'm "heavy handed" as you mentioned would like thr P90 version, you were spot on, and while I had many electric guitars and a few amps in the past, I have only played acoustic guitat for the last few years. I feel that P90s allow you to express yourself more "dynamically" like you wood on an acoustic guitar. I'm looking to get an electric guitar and amp, again, so that I can jam with my son who now plays the drums. Jamming with the acoustic-electric guitar just isn't quite as fun. 😉🙂 I want a versatile guitar and a versatile amp. I thought to get the Boss Katana Artist MKII amp, but I haven't decided on the guitar. After playing at three different guitar stores over the last couple of days (and after watching over 100 UA-cam videos, reading Reddit posts for versatile guitar suggestions, and reading reviews online - all over the last week), the Yamaha Revstar P90 version and an LsL Saticoy HSS are what I liked the most. That is QUITE the price difference 😂, but I had no intention of even playing an LsL, I had no idea of who they were before playing the guitar, but, MAN, is it a SUPER COMFORTABLE guitar that plays and sounds great! 😀 But what a compliment to this Yamaha Revstar at this price point! I'm not sure which one to get. I played a Fender Player Plus HSS that had the same setup as the LsL, but it didn't have the overall mojo. That LsL HAD IT! 😀 I'd also like to try a Reverend Double Agent, P90 in the neck, humbucker in the bridge, but none were in stock. Thanks again for this review. You were spot on with your suggestions of the different versions. Oh, and on the "acoustic" setting on a basic 50W Boss Katana MKII at the store, the Yamaha Revstar P90 versuon practically sounded like an acoustic guitar! I was impressed! 😮😀👍 That chambered body definitely added to that tonal capability! ☺️👍 Thanks again! 🙂👍

Great review. Thank you. I'd definitely get the flash green if not for that racing stripe. Not a fan of that stripe at all. I'm play primarily a stoner and proto-doom sound (Sabbath and Kyuss). I love gain and fuzz. Which model would lend itself to that sound best? Thank you

I just got one of these and it is a great pedal. Lots of options and different sounds, in combination with different guitars makes it very usefull. Great video....

Got this sound covered with a Danalectro Roebuck but if I didn't I'd grab this. It's as essential to have in your kit as a Tubescreamer or Bluesdriver.

$500 for most sets, $600+ for "special" sets...and they Don't disclose k-ohms readings , in favor of nebulas names and wine conisuer type, flowery prose... Would you buy a car, if the manufacturer refused to tell you what engine it came with ?.. instead choosing to tell you, one has a sweet Vroom and the other has a grissly Vroom... Killer Sales Demo, Though... Dudes got Skills.

many thanks for this Jay. I've had a Jazz master for about 30 years, but stopped playing it when I got into DJing and electronic production. Got a nice tube amp (Blackstar) a year or so ago and have been just loving getting back into playing this, and your love for it too just added a cherry on the cake. I got my Jazzmaster because Robert Smith played them, so I didn't even really try it out in the shop, I just got it (after the Rickenbacker 330 wasn't right) God vibes all round <3

Such a great review, as so many have mentioned! THANK YOU! My ideal guitar would have a P90 in the neck and a humbucker in the bridge. If they only made a Revstar with that combo! >_< I guess I would lean more towards the P90 version since I've have tasted the sound of P90s on a guitar in the past, and I LOVE how you can have the creamy cleans, but the grit and growl also, and it's pretty much based on how you play. I only have acoustics right now, but as I'm reading reviews and watching videos considering getting an electric guitar again (I just one all around great one), I feel like the P90 pickup allows you to express your music more dynamically like on an acoustic - how hard you hit, percussive hits, etc. I need to try these out in-person, but this/these Revstar guitar(s) are making it towards the top of my list with all that I'm reading and hearing! Thank you! :)

First of all, one of the best guitar demos I've come across on YT - and I watch far too many. Second, the Revstar has been on my wishlist since I saw what Chris Buck could do with one. I've been a big fan of Yamaha acoustics for a long time, but this will be my first electric.

If you want to have your own music or your own “sound” you have to grow up. you can’t constantly be insecure worrying about what other people will think, no one cares. whatever you’re into, think about why you weren’t into it 8 years ago and why you are now. this guy will always be a successful musician because he knows who he is. he doesn’t need people to tell him what guitars are cool IE a PRS S2 Standard. if it’s made in the US or Japan, especially by a legacy company, it’s going to be a great guitar. if you play a guitar, you can make almost any quality model special. you’re not in highschool, you don’t need other people who also don’t make a living playing music telling you how to feel or what to buy with the money you worked for. no one cares 🙏

I have a Vox SDC 33. Would the Revstar be a substantial upgrade over that? I am leaning towards the P90 model. Thanks!

Now PRS is putting all USA electronics in all S2 guitars. Prices go up 250 for pups that cost 500 on the street. That same guitar with satin finish for 1500. It's a solid deal I want one.

L1 delivers no mids ..... only basses and highs - The 15" Fullrange sound much better for me but such a fullrange in my back makes trouble with feedback because of the mids.

My first 'good' guitar was an sg standard with bigsby in 1975. Sold it in 1982. I now have a 2020 sg standard (retrofitted a bigsby b5) two strats and a sheraton. Have been thinking of getting a prs s2 22 or 24, for the more stable tuning etc. Somehow the prs doesn't have the full-bodied sound of an sg. All of the classic guitars seem to have their own idiosyncrasies, which you learn to live with. I'm going to try a couple of prs guitars, see if they have the character of an sg👍

Are the pickups the same in the standard and the pro revstar lines? Or is the standard revstars the Indonesian recreation?
